Who is the “Pariah Pony”?
Meet Elvis, or "King of Rock and Roll". He is a 4 year old traditional American Saddlebred gelding bred by Mary Anderson of Spooner, Wisconsin. Elvis has a personality as large as his name suggests. He's full of life, intelligent, brave, affectionate, and quite the cheeky fellow. I've never met a horse quite like him.
"Pariah Pony" is the jocular name given to Elvis. He is a Pariah on two counts. First, he is an outcast amongst the saddlebred industry as he has no place in the saddleseat ring. He wasn't bred for such a career, after all. Second, because of the negative stereotype surrounding the breed in all other disciplines, he's not considered a legetimate prospect for jumping, dressage, or eventing - regardless of his type, which suggests purposeful breeding with sport in mind.
This blog is dedicated to re-framing the role and abilities of the American Saddlebred in sport through documentation of the life and times of my saddlebred sport horse gelding. I am more than excited to share our journey and hope to entertain readers with tales of our exploits.
